Our environmental label system is an important instrument for us in terms of sustainable production and consumption practices.

As it is known, starting with the signing of the European Green Deal on 11 december 2019 and the net zero emission targets of other developed countries in the world that dominate the world economy, the preference of products that are sustainable in exports, low carbon footprint and compliant within the scope of the circular economy ındustrial strategy is predominant started to come to the fore.

The presidential circular on the “Green Deal Action Plan”, which includes national targets, which is a roadmap aimed at supporting green transformation, was published on 16.07.2021. ın this published “green deal action plan”, the target for increasing the number of environmental label criteria in our country has been specified.

In addition, in october 2022, the national environmental label system of turkey became a full member of the global ecolabeling network, and the national environmental label system has become internationally valid. our ministry cooperates with the private sector, public research institutes, universities and international funds in order to increase the number of environmental label criteria in force and enlarge the system.

A cooperation protocol was signed on 18/05/2022 between the ministry of environment, urbanization and climate change and the general directorate of mineral research and exploration for the determination of the environmental label criteria of the natural stones product group within the scope of the environmental label regulation.

In this context; natural stone product group environmental label criteria prepared by our ministry, general directorate of mineral research and exploration, general directorate of mining and petroleum affairs, middle east technical university, relevant sector representatives and ngos, eco-label applications in europe and australia and conditions of our country has been taken into account.

The environmental label system, which enables natural stones, which make up 5 of the exports in the mining sector, to become environmentally and climate-friendly sustainable products, will add added value to both raw blocks and final processed products, and will give them a privilege against competing countries in the world market.

Thus, our natural stone product group exports, which are at the forefront of the world ranking, will be brought to better levels with the environmental label system.

The natural stone product group environmental label criteria created with the Life Cycle Approach, which follows the processes from the cradle to the grave;
