The opening meeting of “Criteria Development for  Tourist Accommodation Services” project was carried out.

The Establishment of Environmental Label Criteria in Tourist Accommodation Service Group for the Sustainable Implementation of and the Elevation of Awareness to Turkish Environment Label System” was launched conjointly with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the TUBITAK Marmara Research Center. 
With a view to offering reliable, correct, not-misleading and scientific knowledge to consumers about the environmental status of products and services, Turkish Environment Label System, which allows products to be awarded with environmental label and which bases on a voluntariness, was established after the promulgation of the Regulation on Environmental Labelling on 19 October, 2018. Following the announcement of the criteria on ceramic tiles, textiles and tissue paper, the application process for obtaining eco-label status was started. 
The project is intended to draw up a reference guide on ceramic tiles, textiles and tissue paper whose criteria for environmental labelling were already set and announced. The project also aims to establish criteria – in accordance with the Regulation (EC) No 66/2010- in “Tourist Accommodation Facilities” which is one of the important sectors in our country, with an objective of raising environmental responsibility and improving environmental quality in and around these places.
Participants from relevant organizations, governmental institution as well as non-governmental organizations attended the launching meeting held on 10 September, 2019 in Ankara. In the meeting, the importance of touristic accommodation facilities service group in Turkey as well as the effective implementation of Turkish Environmental Label System were evaluated through an answer/response process and presentations.
